A/Prof Papenfuss is Head of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and Head of Computational Biology at the WEHI, his research is strongly (though not exclusively) focused on developing methods for the analysis of cancer omics data and understanding cancer evolution. In particular, his lab continues to work on methods to detect and understand complex genomic rearrangements, and in particular to apply these to understand the mechanisms underlying the formation of neochromosomes in certain rare cancers. Melanoma genomics is also a significant focus of the Papenfuss lab and they work closely with the skin cancer stream at the VCCC.
